Furniture Overview
Summary: Review the information on this page before selecting or buying University furniture.
The University has a mandatory primary source agreement with Steelcase, Inc. for the purchase of furniture used in an office or office-like environment. This includes the following items:
free-standing office furniture
computer furniture
office seating
storage (file cabinets)
modular, systems, or workstation furniture*
*Modular, systems, or workstation furniture includes panels that create cubicles, and may also create passageways, etc. These fabric panels may modify the original layout of the room being furnished, and create building code concerns for accessibility, and seismic and fire safety.
All furniture of the types described above must be purchased from Steelcase. See the University Planned Purchasing Program for Steelcase. View Steelcase products.
Exceptions: All exceptions must be granted by the Director of Materiel Management.
General Exceptions to Mandatory Requirement: An exception may be granted if special delivery requirements or substantial differences in specifications preclude the use of the Steelcase product line.
Special Exceptions to Mandatory Requirement:
Matching existing Westinghouse/Knoll systems furniture - contact Oscar Camarena at X2338 if you need assistance evaluating your situation.
Specialized medically-required ergonomic needs, if the need cannot be met by a Steelcase product.
A large project purchase of used, remanufactured or refurbished furniture that is both an exceptional value and also meets the performance and quality standards established by the Steelcase agreement. Contact David Ng for assistance, as needed.
